Pittsburgh, PA (March 31, 2024) — Life’sWork of Western PA has received a grant from United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania to provide employment support services for individuals in recovery from substance use disorders. For nearly a century, Life’sWork of Western PA (Life’sWork) has embraced a commitment to serving individuals with disabilities and those who are facing other challenges to finding a job, such as economic circumstances, or who are in recovery from substance use disorders and need encouragement, support, and/or the acquisition of specific skills to secure a job.
As a partner agency of United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania aligned with United Way’s investment priority of “Moving Toward Financial Stability,” Life’sWork will use the grant to provide employment support services through the Life’sWork RECOVER program for individuals in recovery from substance use disorder (SUD) who are living in Westmoreland and Fayette counties. The RECOVER program provides individuals with talent development training to prepare for the workplace, access to employment opportunities and job placement support, and job coaching to support employment retention.
“The United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania grant will create a powerful impact,” says Timothy Parks, president and chief executive officer of Life’sWork. “With support from United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania, we are connecting individuals to the resources they need to succeed and equipping individuals in recovery from substance use disorder with meaningful, sustainable employment. We are truly thankful to United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania for investing in these life-changing opportunities.”
Life’sWork offers programs and employment support services, including vocational assessments, job shadowing and work-based learning experiences, placement and follow-on support, as well as customized training programs for individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment.
