Pittsburgh, Pa. — Life’sWork of Western PA announced today that former Pittsburgh Pirate, Kevin Young will serve as the Honorary Chair to celebrate their 33rd Annual Golf Invitational, set for Monday, June 17th at South Hills Country Club. Every year, the organization organizes this event to engage the community in supporting the mission, vision, and core values of the organization while enjoying a scramble-style tournament.
Kevin Young played 12 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1992–95, 1997–2003) and Kansas City Royals (1996), primarily as a first baseman. He batted and threw right-handed. Young finished his career with 65 home runs hit at Three Rivers Stadium, which ranks fourth on the all-time list behind Willie Stargell (147), Barry Bonds (89) and Dave Parker (88). And, only Stargell (184) hit more home runs as a first baseman than Young did (128) in a Pirates uniform. In addition, Young is one of only three players in franchise history to collect at least 100 runs, 40 doubles, 20 home runs, 100 RBI and 20 stolen bases in one season. Young delivered this for Pittsburgh in 1999. (Dave Parker and Jason Bay)
Kevin Young was also the recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award in Pittsburgh. This award is given annually to the MLB player who best exemplifies sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual’s contribution to his team.
The 33rd Annual Golf Invitational will begin at 8:30 AM with registration and complimentary breakfast. The shotgun start will begin at 10:00 AM. Life’sWork is very grateful to UPMC Health Plan for returning as the Presenting Sponsor again this year!
